      Wednesday 4 October, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall was in Moscow alongside an audience of space dignitaries to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Sputnik’s launch at the international forum on “Sputnik: 60 Years Along the Path Of Discoveries”.

    3. France-Russia space cooperation CNES at the MAKS 2017 international air show

      Wednesday 19 July, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall visited the ESA and GIFAS stands at the MAKS international air show in Moscow, where he also met his counterpart Igor Komarov, Head of Roscosmos, the Russian federal space agency. The two agency heads took the opportunity to review joint work undertaken in 2016, a year marked by the 50th anniversary of French-Russian space cooperation, as well as prospects for closer cooperation driven by the new political dynamic between France and Russia.

      Monday 9 April in Kourou, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall led the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first launch from the Guiana Space Centre. It was on 9 April 1968 that the Véronique sounding rocket, France’s first launcher, soared skywards from Europe’s spaceport. The pioneers of this great adventure and several former directors of the space centre were present at today’s event.

    17. CNES celebrates 50th anniversary of first French-Russian space cooperation agreement

      30 June 1966, France and the Soviet Union signed a first cooperation agreement on the exploration and peaceful uses of outer space. Over the last 50 years, the two countries have worked together on many emblematic programmes in the fields of science, human spaceflight and launch vehicles, forging true industrial ties in the process.
