    Soyuz 2-1a successfully lifted off 8 November on its maiden flight from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia. This success is a major step forward for the Russian launcher before the entry into service of Soyuz 2-1b in 2006 and its arrival in Kourou in 2007.

    Soyuz is getting closer to French Guiana! While the alteration work is going on at the Guiana Space Center, French space agency CNES and Esa signed an agreement on the setting up programme. This gives a schedule for the Russian launcher’s installation at Europe’s spaceport. The adjustment for Soyuz begins in Guiana: launching expected in 2008!

Among them, Scott Kelly broke the spaceflight record by living 342 days (and 520 cumulative days) in space. The capsule also brought back a French experiment which stayed even longer than him in space (588 days).

    After a launch delay of several days, Venus Express is now all set to go. The European spacecraft dedicated to studying the atmosphere of Venus will launch atop a Soyuz-Fregat vehicle on 9 November from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. CNES is a partner on this mission.

After completing the final phase of functional testing, the spacecraft has now arrived at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, where it will be launched atop a Soyuz-Fregat vehicle in October. CNES is a partner on this mission.

    The 3rd exobiology experiment devised by the LISA laboratory in Créteil, France, supported by CNES, lifted off on board a Russian Soyuz launcher on 26 November. Called AMINO, it aims to study the viability of certain organic molecules in space, like for example those found in comets.

  16. IASI signals a change in weather forecasting

    This July, a Soyuz launcher will orbit the 1st of 3 European MetOp1 weather satellites. MetOp-A will be carrying the IASI2 instrument developed by CNES in partnership with Eumetsat3 to bring meteorologists new atmospheric measurements of unmatched quality. The satellite is now preparing to leave EADS Astrium’s facility in Toulouse, France, for its launch site.

  17. IASI in orbit on MetOp-B satellite

    A 2nd IASI meteorology instrument, developed by CNES, was orbited Monday 17 September aboard the European MetOp-B satellite. The Russian Soyuz launcher lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 18.28 CET, injecting its payload into orbit at an altitude of 800 km. The satellite was also carrying two other passengers: Argos-3 and the Sarsat-3 search-and-rescue payload.

    Le Comité Consultatif Soyouz, qui associe l’Agence spatiale russe Roscosmos et l’Agence Spatiale Européenne, le Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales et Arianespace, s’est réuni le mardi 11 mai 2010 en Guyane. Il a confirmé que le 1er lancement de Soyuz au Centre Spatial Guyanais aura lieu au 4ème trimestre 2010. Ce comité a été l'occasion d'accueillir en Guyane M.S.B. Ivanov, Vice Premier ministre du gouvernement de la Fédération de Russie et A. N. Perminov le Directeur de Roscomos, et de procéder à une visite du chantier Soyouz en cours d'achèvement.
