  3. CNES hosts Special Session of the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment

    CNES, in partnership with the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD France) and the French Alliance for Environmental Research (AllEnvi), is hosting the Special Session of the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment on 18 and 19 October at the agency’s Head Office in Paris. The objective of this special session is to start an international working group tasked with shaping and helping to establish a multi-stakeholder digital platform supported by the United Nations designed to address global change issues. Based on achieving convergence between global Earth-observation data (from satellite data and in-situ observations to the Internet of Things (IoT)), big data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), this platform aims to bring a new dimension to access to information on the status of the environment for decision-makers and citizens alike. It will propose solutions for implementing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    Le CNES, en partenariat avec l’Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) et l’Alliance nationale de recherche pour l'Environnement (AllEnvi), accueille les 18 et 19 octobre à Paris en son Siège la « Special Session of the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment ». Cette session extraordinaire du Forum des Nations Unies Science-Politique-Affaires pour l’Environnement a pour but le lancement d'un groupe de travail international chargé de guider et de participer à la mise en place d'unee plateforme numérique multi acteurs soutenue par les Nations Unies pour répondre aux enjeux des changements globaux. Basée sur la convergence des données d’observation planétaire (allant des données spatiales à l’internet des objets connectés en passant par les observatoires in situ), sur les moyens analytiques des mégadonnées (big data) et sur l’Intelligence Artificielle (IA), cette plate-forme vise à donner une nouvelle dimension à l’accès aux informations sur l’état de l’environnement pour les décideurs et les citoyens. Elle est porteuse de solutions pour la mise en œuvre des Objectifs de développement durable (ODD).

    Monday 15 October in Paris, on the occasion of the state visit to France of South Korea’s President Moon Jae-In and in the presence of Frédérique Vidal, France’s Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and You Young-Min, South Korea’s Minister of Science and ICT, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall, Lim Cheol-Ho, President of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), and Jang Jae-Dong, Director at the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA, National Meteorological Satellite Center), signed a letter of intent concerning the Space Climate Observatory (SCO).

  8. Space cooperation between France and South Korea- CNES briefs KARI and KMA on Space Climate Observatory

    CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall was in South Korea on Monday 2 July to meet the key leaders of the country’s space sector, including Lim Cheol-Ho, President of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), and Nam Jae-Cheol, Head of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). The main purpose of his visit was for CNES to present the state of progress on the Space Climate Observatory (SCO). It followed the 2nd France-Korea Space Forum in Paris on Tuesday 3 April, organized by CNES and KARI and attended by numerous politicians, scientists, administrative officials and representatives from across the French and Korean space sector. It is part of preparations for South Korean President Moon Jae-In’s state visit to France in October.

    Jean-Yves Le Gall, Président du CNES, s’est rendu lundi 2 juillet en Corée, où il a rencontré les principaux responsables du secteur spatial coréen, notamment Lim Cheol-Ho, Président du KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) et Nam Jae-Chol, Administrateur de la KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration). Cette visite avait pour objet principal, la présentation par le CNES de l’état d’avancement du Space Climate Observatory (SCO). Elle faisait suite au deuxième forum franco-coréen sur l’espace, organisé mardi 3 avril à Paris par le CNES et le KARI, auquel participaient de nombreux responsables politiques, scientifiques, administratifs et industriels du secteur spatial français et coréen. Elle s’inscrit dans la préparation de la visite d’Etat en France du Président Moon Jae-In, en octobre prochain.

The minister visited the centre after closing the Toulouse Space Show (TSS), where over the last three days CNES and its partners from the Occitanie region of Southwest France have been hosting key space stakeholders to discuss latest solutions, future trends and the NewSpace economy.

    Frédérique Vidal, Ministre de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche et de l’Innovation, a fêté jeudi 28 juin, le 50ème anniversaire du Centre Spatial de Toulouse. La Ministre avait auparavant clôturé le Toulouse Space Show (TSS) où le CNES et ses partenaires en Occitanie ont accueilli pendant trois jours à ce forum, les acteurs majeurs du spatial pour discuter des dernières solutions, des futures tendances et de l’économie du NewSpace.

  14. Prime Minister’s official visit to People’s Republic of China- CNES and CNSA sign first agreement to implement Space Climate Observatory (SCO)

    On the occasion of the Prime Minister’s official visit to the People’s Republic of China from Friday 22 to Monday 25 June, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall held a first meeting with Zhang Kejian, the new Administrator of the China National Space Administration (CNSA). Monday 25 June in Beijing, the two agency heads signed in the presence of the Prime Minister and his Chinese counterpart a specific agreement on implementing the Space Climate Observatory (SCO).

  15. One Planet Summit World’s space agencies propose to set up a Space Climate Observatory

    On the eve of the One Planet Summit organized in Paris at the initiative of President Emmanuel Macron, the heads of the world’s space agencies met today at CNES Head Office. At this meeting focused on climate monitoring from space, three round tables addressed the topics of greenhouse gas monitoring, water resource management and the use of satellites in natural disaster management. The meeting led to the adoption of the Paris Declaration, which proposes to set up a Space Climate Observatory (SCO) to pool climate data acquired from space and make them readily available to the international scientific community.
