  9. Thomas Pesquet conducts Fluidics experiment. Experiment to improve Earth observation and climate prediction proves a total success

    Publishing date:

    May 9, 2017

Of the 21 experiments steered by CADMOS (the CNES centre for the development of microgravity applications and space operations) and conducted by Thomas Pesquet, Fluidics is especially significant in helping us understand how oceans work, and in particular the occurrence of ‘rogue waves’.

    Publishing date:

    February 3, 2017

For certain, the Rosetta mission that ended last September with the orbiter impacting the nucleus of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko after a controlled descent will mark the history of space exploration. Having achieved numerous firsts, collected a wealth of data and made major discoveries, this ambitious mission—a veritable space odyssey, given the length of its journey and the operational obstacles it had to overcome— has indisputably been a huge success.

    Publishing date:

    October 12, 2016

Surveying Earth from its 400-kilometre vantage point in orbit, the International Space Station (ISS) is poised for two key events at the end of the year on which France will be casting a close eye. The first will see three new astronauts arriving, among them Frenchman Thomas Pesquet, who will be conducting the Proxima mission designed and planned by CNES and the CADMOS centre for the development of microgravity applications and space operations (see p. 8). And in December, a more strategic event will be taking place in Lucerne, Switzerland, where the ESA council meeting at ministerial level is set to decide on its future contributions to the ISS after 2020.
