  11. CNES ends 2019 with final flourish as ANGELS and EyeSat are sent into orbit

    The two satellites have departed Earth from the Guiana Space Centre atop a Soyuz launcher and are now operating over our heads. ANGELS, built by Hemeria with support from CNES, is the first French commercial nanosatellite to enter service, and EyeSat was developed through CNES’s JANUS1 student cubesat project.

  13. CNES Science Programmes Committee meets First for new 2019-2024 team

    Tuesday 1 October, CNES’s Science Programmes Committee (CPS) met at the agency’s Head Office in Paris Les Halles. The CPS advises the CNES Board of Directors on matters relating to space science research and helps it to shape the agency’s science priorities. Today’s meeting was the first since the appointment in March of the new committee members for 2019-2024 and of its new Chair, Gilles Bergametti.

  14. Successful Strato-Science 2019 balloon flight campaign from Timmins

    The Strato-Science 2019 balloon flight campaign, started in mid-August, has been a clear success. The four zero-pressure stratospheric balloon flights operated by CNES—two for France (CABUX and PILOT) and two for Canada (Life and Super Bit)—were completed without a hitch from the Canadian Space Agency’s Timmins launch site in Canada.

    On the night of Thursday 20 and Friday 21 June, Ariane 5 will be sent aloft from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, carrying the T-16 satellite for AT&T and the EUTELSAT 7C satellite for Eutelsat. The launch will mark Ariane 5’s 104th flight, the 71st with the ECA variant, its second in 2019 and the fifth of the year from the CSG.

  20. France-Australia space cooperation- Climate, Innovation and Exploration: CNES signs three partnership agreements

    Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 February in Canberra, France and Australia held ministerial-level meetings on science and innovation in the presence of France’s Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation Frédérique Vidal and the heads of the French national scientific research centre CNRS, the French national institute for health and medical research INSERM, the French national research agency ANR and CNES, paving the way for future research cooperation between the two nations. On the sidelines of these meetings and accompanied by Frédérique Vidal, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall signed three partnership agreements in the fields of climate change, innovation and human spaceflight with Australia’s top research organizations. These agreements follow on from the signature in 2018 of a strategic partnership accord between CNES and the Australian Space Agency (ASA) that made France the newly formed agency’s first international partner.
