      Programme international de Search and Rescue – Recherche et Sauvetage – créé en 1988, Cospas-Sarsat a été un véritable succès. En 30 ans, 48 000 personnes ont été sauvées. Aujourd’hui, le système se dote d’une nouvelle fonctionnalité : le Return Link – Lien Retour – permettant aux personnes ayant émis un signal de détresse de recevoir un accusé de réception de leur appel à l’aide. Une innovation made in CNES.

    4. Rosetta severs link with Philae

      The Electrical Support System (ESS) through which the Rosetta orbiter has been listening out for Philae will be turned off Wednesday 27 July at 11 a.m. CEST. The remaining supply of power, now ever dwindling as comet Churyumov-Gersimenko moves further away from the Sun, will be used to complete the final phases of the mission.

    5. CNES and NICT announce new satellite-to-ground optical links

      Over the last six months, CNES and Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) have successfully established optical links between a SOTA terminal on a low-Earth-orbit satellite and an experimental ground station at the Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur (OCA) in Caussols, southern France. This success has been hailed by four international publications.
