  2. [REPLAY] Soyuz successfully orbits CSO-2 satellite

    Tuesday 29 December, Soyuz accomplished a flawless launch from Europe’s spaceport at the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), carrying the CSO-2 military observation and security satellite on behalf of CNES and the French defence procurement agency DGA for French Armed Forces High Command (EMA). The launcher thus accomplished its 25th mission from the CSG, its second in 2020 and the seventh flight of the year in all from the base.

    Friday 25 September, a delegation of the National Assembly’s Defence and Armed Forces Committee, led by Gard MP Françoise Dumas, the Committee’s Chair, and including Indre-et-Loire MP Sabine Thillaye, Chair of the National Assembly’s European Affairs Committee, accompanied by Loiret MP Marianne Dubois, visited the Toulouse Space Centre (CST). The visit gave the MPs the chance to see how France’s military space strategy is being executed.

    Friday 21 February, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall, General Philippe Lavigne, Air Force Chief of Staff, Thierry Angel, Deputy Head, Forces, of the French defence procurement agency DGA, and General Michel Friedling, Chief of Space Command, welcomed the Minister of Armed Forces Florence Parly to the Toulouse Space Centre (CST). Ever since its inception in 1961, CNES has worked closely with the Ministry for Armed Forces—one of its overseeing ministries with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation—and is today a vital cog in the conduct of military space programmes, execution of space operations and planning for the future.

    Monday 5 January, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall delivered his New Year wishes to members of the French and international press in the Salle de l’Espace at Paris Les Halles. This traditional gathering provided the opportunity to review a year of historic successes for CNES and to present the agency’s strategy and challenges for 2015, a year in which the focus will be on climate in the lead-up to the COP 21 global climate summit in Paris in December.

  12. Four new satellites to join Galileo constellation

    Year after year, the strategic importance of innovation for the space sector’s future is becoming ever clearer in an increasingly competitive global arena. CNES’s Innovation Day event this year presented technology prospects for orbital systems and launchers, as well as the agency’s new organization geared to the challenges of global competition and the digital transformation. And for the first time, CNES invited 10 start-ups it is nurturing through its R&T plan and incubation and technology spin-off actions.

  18. CNES renews memorandum on space training with the Ecole de l’Air

    CNES devotes a lot of effort to programmes for the Ministry of Defence. To optimize its work, it supports space training for the ministry’s officers. To this end, the agency signed a memorandum Friday 8 April with the Ecole de l’Air, France’s air officer training school, formalizing actions aimed at helping the school’s command to give trainee officers the vital knowledge needed to fulfil their future space responsibilities.
