  6. France-Israel space cooperation CNES at the 12th Ilan Ramon Conference “Bringing Space Down To Earth”

    CNES and IAF President Jean-Yves Le Gall was at the 12th Ilan Ramon Conference in Herzliya, Israel, on Sunday 29 and Monday 30 January, on the theme “Bringing Space Down To Earth”. He took this opportunity to laud the value of international cooperation through the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and to meet his counterpart at the Israel Space Agency (ISA).

    The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) held its first Symposium on Wednesday 8 February in Vienna, following the 54th session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). CNES and IAF President Jean-Yves Le Gall presented the federation’s Global Innovation Agenda 2016-2019 and upcoming events to delegates.

    Jean-Yves Le Gall, who has been involved in the IAF’s activities for many years, took over his position as IAF President at the IAC 2016 in Guadalajara, Mexico. On Friday 14 October, he convened a press conference at the CNES Headquarters in Paris to present his plan and strategic goals for developing the IAF. He also presented the details of his IAF Global Innovation Agenda for 2016-2019, based on three main principles: preserving the IAF heritage and building on its existing strengths; listening and opening up to the world; plus preparing the future and Connecting @ll Space People.

    The 66th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Jerusalem came to a close on Friday 16 October with the election of CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall as the next President of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), for a three-year term starting in September 2016. This year’s congress, a key event in the world space calendar, has been a great success, notably for CNES with numerous agreements signed, high numbers of visitors to its booth and excellent technical presentations by the agency’s scientists and engineers. It also gave CNES the opportunity to sign a first Research and Technology agreement with the Israel Space Agency (ISA).
