    Friday 22 July in Tokyo, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met the agency’s Japanese partners: his opposite number Naoki Okumura, President of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA); Saku Tsuneta, Director General of the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS); Shuzo Takada, Director General of the National Space Policy Secretariat at the Cabinet Office; and Masaaki Tanaka, Director General of the Research and Development Bureau at MEXT, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

  4. CNES in Bremen for 69th IAC

    The 69th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the annual rendezvous of the international space community, is being held in Bremen from Monday 1 to Friday 5 October, organized by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and chaired by CNES and IAF President Jean-Yves Le Gall.

  6. France-Australia space cooperation- Successful Austral 2017 balloon flight campaign- Promising prospects for future cooperation in sight

    CNES has completed the three stratospheric balloon flights of its Austral 2017 campaign without a hitch, yielding a rich harvest of precious science data on climate, astronomy and technology. CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall visited the Alice Springs balloon launch facility to congratulate the agency’s and research laboratories’ flight campaign teams. He then met several Australian space executives and officials ahead of the 68th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) to be held in Adelaide this September.

    The 68th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) was held this week in Adelaide, Australia, from 25-29 September on the theme ‘Unlocking Imagination, Fostering Innovation and Strengthening Security’, attracting 5,000 delegates from more than 70 countries. A large delegation of scientists, engineers and executives from the French space sector was at this leading international event to present the major advances of our space programme and seal new partnerships with a range of stakeholders on the international space scene.

  9. CNES at COPUOS sessions and IAF Symposium in Vienna

    The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) held its first Symposium on Wednesday 8 February in Vienna, following the 54th session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). CNES and IAF President Jean-Yves Le Gall presented the federation’s Global Innovation Agenda 2016-2019 and upcoming events to delegates.

    Jean-Yves Le Gall, who has been involved in the IAF’s activities for many years, took over his position as IAF President at the IAC 2016 in Guadalajara, Mexico. On Friday 14 October, he convened a press conference at the CNES Headquarters in Paris to present his plan and strategic goals for developing the IAF. He also presented the details of his IAF Global Innovation Agenda for 2016-2019, based on three main principles: preserving the IAF heritage and building on its existing strengths; listening and opening up to the world; plus preparing the future and Connecting @ll Space People.

    Wednesday 3 August in Brasilia, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met his counterpart José Raimundo Braga Coelho, President of the Brazilian space agency AEB (Agencia Espacial Brasileira), to review the status of space cooperation between France and Brazil and discuss efforts to curb climate change ahead of IAC 2016 in Guadalajara.

  12. CNES in Jerusalem for 66th IAC- Jean-Yves Le Gall elected IAF President

    The 66th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Jerusalem came to a close on Friday 16 October with the election of CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall as the next President of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), for a three-year term starting in September 2016. This year’s congress, a key event in the world space calendar, has been a great success, notably for CNES with numerous agreements signed, high numbers of visitors to its booth and excellent technical presentations by the agency’s scientists and engineers. It also gave CNES the opportunity to sign a first Research and Technology agreement with the Israel Space Agency (ISA).
