    Wednesday 22 August in Timmins, Ontario, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met his Canadian counterpart and friend Sylvain Laporte, President of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), for a wide-ranging discussion of possible new areas of cooperation, signing to this end a letter of intent on scientific ballooning in the presence of the Mayor of Timmins, Steve Black. They also took the opportunity to watch a balloon launch.

  14. France-China space cooperation- Cardiospace mission launched

    Thursday 15 September, CNES’s Cardiospace mission was launched from China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center aboard the new TianGong-2 orbital module. Cardiospace will be studying how the taikonauts’ cardiovascular system adapts to microgravity conditions and is deconditioned on their return to Earth.

    The OSIRIS-REx mission was launched Friday 9 September at 01:05 from the Cape Canaveral base in Florida, on board an Atlas V launcher. In an absolute first, the mission probe will rendezvous with asteroid Bennu in August 2018 to conduct a detailed study of this small near-Earth object, map its surface and then perform a rapid “Touch-and-Go” in order to take samples such as regolith and return them to Earth in 2023.

    Monday 25 May in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA) organized its official launch ceremony. Headed by Khalifa Mohammed Al Rumaithi, UAESA was formed in July 2014 and has already signalled its intention to be a prime mover in space.

  19. France-China space cooperation- CFOSat in orbit

    Monday 29 October, the China France Oceanography Satellite (CFOSat) was placed into orbit by a Chinese Long March 2C launch vehicle from the Jiuquan launch base in Inner Mongolia. CFOSat’s solar array deployed successfully 32 minutes later and the satellite started its science mission to study ocean surface winds and waves.
