The French-Israeli VENµS satellite (Vegetation and Environment monitoring on a New MicroSatellite) set to be orbited on 1 August by a Vega launcher from the Guiana Space Centre features four key innovations, with a very compact spacecraft bus, a high-performance instrument, new image-acquisition tasking capability and a technology mission focused on electric propulsion.

Monday 5 January, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall delivered his New Year wishes to members of the French and international press in the Salle de l’Espace at Paris Les Halles. This traditional gathering provided the opportunity to review a year of historic successes for CNES and to present the agency’s strategy and challenges for 2015, a year in which the focus will be on climate in the lead-up to the COP 21 global climate summit in Paris in December.

CNES and IAF President Jean-Yves Le Gall was at the 12th Ilan Ramon Conference in Herzliya, Israel, on Sunday 29 and Monday 30 January, on the theme “Bringing Space Down To Earth”. He took this opportunity to laud the value of international cooperation through the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and to meet his counterpart at the Israel Space Agency (ISA).

Tuesday 23 May in Paris, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Wu Yanhua, Vice-Administrator of the China National Space Administration, chaired the 11th meeting of the French-Chinese Space Committee. On this occasion, they discussed space cooperation between the two nations, reviewed progress on their flagship joint programmes CFOSat and SVOM, and signed a cooperation agreement on the HY-2 ocean-observing missions.

Monday 2 November in Beijing, in the presence of French President François Hollande and his Chinese counterpart, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Xu Dazhe, Administrator of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), signed a letter of intent to establish a framework for long-term cooperation on climate change studies and oceanography.

Wednesday 30 September, President François Hollande officially inaugurated the CNES Climate Dome in the courtyard of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, where CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall played host to Mr Hollande, Ségolène Royal, the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, Emmanuel Macron, the Minister of the Economy, Industry and Digital Technologies, and Thierry Mandon, Secretary of State in charge of Higher Education and Research, for a guided tour.
