    4. Next Vega mission to orbit. VENUS and OPTSAT-3000 satellites

      Tuesday 1 August, Vega will lift off from Europe’s spaceport in French Guiana carrying the VENµS and OPTSAT-3000 satellites. The launch, conducted on behalf of CNES and the Israel Space Agency (ISA), and the Italian Ministry of Defence, will be the eighth this year from the Guiana Space Centre and will mark the tenth flight of Vega, which will be orbiting its seventh Earth-observing satellite.

UKSA’s Director of Growth, Catherine Mealing-Jones, and CNES President, Jean-Yves Le Gall, signed the MicroCarb cooperation agreement this morning (19th April) at the French Ambassador’s Residence in London, witnessed by Jo Johnson, the Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation, and France’s Ambassador to the UK, Sylvie Bermann.

    14. Thomas Pesquet en route to the International Space Station

      Thursday 17 November at 21:20 CET, Soyuz completed a flawless launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, sending aloft France’s ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet, Russian mission commander Oleg Novitsky (Roscosmos) and U.S. astronaut Peggy Whitson (NASA). The spacecraft is scheduled to berth with the International Space Station on Saturday 19 November at around 23:00.

    15. CNES-Eumetsat cooperation Agencies sign agreement to fly Argos instruments on MetOp-SG satellites

      Monday 27 June in Darmstadt, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Eumetsat Director General Alain Ratier signed a cooperation agreement to fly instruments for the Argos data collection and location system on Eumetsat’s MetOp-SG second-generation polar-orbiting satellites. The signing ceremony was also attended by Christophe Vassal, CEO of CLS (Collecte Localisation Satellites), the CNES subsidiary that operates the Argos system and, like Eumetsat, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

    20. Rosetta set to bow out on 30 September- Mission finale sealed with a parting cometary kiss

      The record-setting space mission that has kept everyone holding their breath since its Philae lander touched down on 12 November 2014 on comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko will come to a close on 30 September. In a final flourish, the Rosetta orbiter will perform an unprecedented controlled descent to join Philae on the comet’s surface.
