      As part of the Phèdre II action plan to support economic and social development in French Guiana, announced by the French President during his visit to the country in October 2017, CNES signed two agreements on Wednesday 25 July 2018, in the presence of Frédérique Vidal, Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation. The first agreement is with the University of French Guiana. The second is with the Guianese education authority’s continuous training and professional integration unit (GIP FCIP).

    6. The first Strateole-2 gondola ready to perform measurements in the tropical tropopause

    16. France-United States space cooperation- CNES, NASA and the JPL gather at the Toulouse Space Centre to celebrate 25 years of altimetry

      High-precision satellite altimetry to improve our understanding of the oceans and their role in climate change dates back to 1992. For it was then that the TOPEX/Poseidon satellite was launched—the result of close cooperation between CNES and NASA. In order to mark this 25th anniversary, on 7 September 2017 the CNES welcomed a large delegation from NASA and the JPL to the Toulouse Space Centre in France.

    18. Next Ariane 5 mission set to launch Intelsat 37e and BSAT-4a satellites

      Tuesday 5 September 2017, Ariane 5 will lift off from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, to place two telecommunications satellites into orbit: Intelsat 37e, built by Boeing for Intelsat, and BSAT-4a, built by Space Systems Loral (SSL) for the Broadcasting Satellite System Corporation (B-SAT). It will be the eighth launch of the year from the CSG, and the fifth launch of the year for Ariane 5, thereby bringing its total number of launches to 95.
