      Tuesday 11 June, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall spoke at the TERATEC 2019 Forum held at the Ecole Polytechnique engineering school in Paris, a major event in France and Europe bringing together the best international experts in high-performance computing, simulation and big data. Taking part in the plenary session on ‘Simulation and Big Data: Technological Challenges and Diversity of Uses’, he outlined CNES’s strategy with respect to developing its ecosystem, innovation and international cooperation.

    5. CNES and ESA to take part in Orange Silicon Valley’s Fab Force program

      CNES and ESA officially announce their partnership with Orange Silicon Valley, through which they will be taking part in its Fab Force alliance. The aim of this one-year partnership is to forge a closer relationship between the two agencies and the Silicon Valley ecosystem, foster new ties in this region, promote European industry and expertise in the United States and prime the pipeline of talent between the two continents.

    6. Investigating a tumultuous paleoclimate on Mars

    7. France-India space cooperation- CNES and ISRO sign agreement to establish maritime surveillance centre in India

      Wednesday 6 March in Bangalore, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Sivan K, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), signed an agreement to implement the short-term plan for the French-Indian programme to develop a maritime surveillance system. This signature follows on from the broader agreement signed last March during President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to India.

    12. Next Soyuz mission from CSG to launch MetOp-C with France’s IASI instrument

      On the night of 6-7 November, Soyuz will lift off for the 19th time from Europe’s spaceport at the Guiana Space Centre (CSG) carrying MetOp-C (Meteorological Operational Polar satellite) with the French IASI instrument (Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer). MetOp-C was built by Airbus Defence & Space for Eumetsat, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites. This will be Soyuz’s second launch from the CSG this year and the third and last satellite launch for the Eumetsat Polar System (EPS) dedicated to operational meteorology.

    14. 100th Ariane 5 flight to orbit Horizons 3e and Azerspace-2/Intelsat 38

      Tuesday 25 September, Ariane 5 will be sent aloft from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, to orbit two telecommunications satellites: Horizons 3e, built by Boeing for Intelsat and its partner SKY Perfect JSAT, and Azerspace-2/Intelsat 38, built by Space Systems Loral (SSL) for Azercosmos and Intelsat. The launch will mark Ariane 5’s 100th flight, its fourth in 2018 and the sixth of the year from the CSG.

      Wednesday 3 October at the press briefing on MASCOT held at the 69th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Bremen, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall, Pascale Ehrenfreund, Chair of the Executive Board of the German space agency DLR, and Hiroshi Yamakawa, President of the Japan Aerospace eXploration Agency (JAXA), signed a joint statement regarding future French-German cooperation to design a rover for the MMX mission led by JAXA to explore Mars’ moons Phobos and Deimos.

    20. France-Indonesia space cooperation- CNES presents advances on Space Climate Observatory to LAPAN and BMKG

      Friday 31 August, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall was in Jakarta to meet Thomas Djamaluddin, Chairman of LAPAN, the Indonesian National Institute of Aeronautics and Space, and Mulyono R. Prabowo, Deputy Director General of BMKG, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics. The objective of these meetings was to step up the longstanding dialogue with these key partners in order to advance current areas of cooperation, particularly in the field of climate actions.
