  1. FERMI reveals millisecond pulsars in a globular cluster

    60 millisecond pulsars in the globular cluster 47 Tucanae: that is what the FERMI observatories concluded when for the first time they showed gamma-ray coming from a globular cluster. Millisecond pulsars are particularly abundant in the globular clusters but for now, radio or X-ray observations could only reveal 23. So for the first time gamma observations allowed scientists to conduct a better census of millisecond pulsars in the globular clusters and thus to better understand the evolution of those mini-galaxies of early ages of the universe. This result was announced in the August 14th, 2009 issue of Science.

  2. Detection of the first extragalactic gamma-ray pulsar

    It is the most luminous gamma-ray pulsar ever observed that has been detected by two scientists from LPC2E (Laboratoire de physique et chimie de l'environnement et de l'espace, CNRS/Orleans University) and from IRAP (Institut de recherche en astrophysique et planétologie, CNRS/Université Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier), with their American colleagues from NASA in an international collaboration.
