    Friday 22 July in Tokyo, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met the agency’s Japanese partners: his opposite number Naoki Okumura, President of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA); Saku Tsuneta, Director General of the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS); Shuzo Takada, Director General of the National Space Policy Secretariat at the Cabinet Office; and Masaaki Tanaka, Director General of the Research and Development Bureau at MEXT, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

  8. CNES closely involved in France-Japan space dialogue

    The inaugural meeting of the France-Japan space dialogue was held on Friday 11 March at Les Invalides in Paris. It was attended by a large delegation of top Japanese officials from various government departments and their French counterparts. The France-Japan space dialogue was implemented last year after an official visit to Japan by representatives of the French Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    Wednesday 3 October at the press briefing on MASCOT held at the 69th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Bremen, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall, Pascale Ehrenfreund, Chair of the Executive Board of the German space agency DLR, and Hiroshi Yamakawa, President of the Japan Aerospace eXploration Agency (JAXA), signed a joint statement regarding future French-German cooperation to design a rover for the MMX mission led by JAXA to explore Mars’ moons Phobos and Deimos.

  11. Intense sequence for CNES, DLR and JAXA- Hayabusa2 and MASCOT arrive at asteroid Ryugu

    The Japanese Hayabusa2 space probe has reached the end of its 3.2-billion-kilometre journey with its passenger, the French-German MASCOT (Mobile Asteroid Surface Scout) lander. Launched in 2014, Hayabusa2 has completed three orbits of the Sun in four years, after which it began a few weeks ago its very slow approach to its final destination. Since today, Hayabusa2 is now escorting Ryugu at a close distance of some 20 kilometres, collecting images and data from this celestial object that spins on itself in a little more than seven and a half hours. MASCOT is scheduled to land on the asteroid in early October.
