    Lors de la COP22 à Marrakech, sept institutions françaises (AFD, CNES, OIEau, CNR, IRD, Irstea, BRLI) ont signé vendredi 11 novembre, un accord de groupe, sous le haut patronage et en présence de Ségolène Royal, Ministre de l’Environnement, de l’Énergie et de la Mer, chargée des Relations internationales sur le climat. Ces institutions s’allient pour travailler sur de nouvelles approches de suivi des ressources en eau, en intégrant les données spatiales. L’accord permet de répondre aux besoins des acteurs du Sud, en mobilisant une expertise française reconnue au niveau mondial et s’inscrit dans l’amélioration de la connaissance des effets du changement climatique.

    The first High-Level Forum on ‘Space as a driver for socio-economic sustainable development’, organized by the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) in the run-up to the UNISPACE+50 conference in June 2018, is being held in Dubai from Sunday 20 to Thursday 24 November. At the invitation of Simonetta Di Pippo, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), on the opening day of the forum CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall talked about the role of satellites in curbing climate change.

    An international research team just published the very first database mapping our planet’s humid areas and their evolution over time, from 1993 to 2007, with a 90 m resolution. Data will be extended to cover up to 2017 and prepare for the enormous amount of data from the revolutionary SWOT hydrology satellite.

    Tuesday 29 September at the Toulouse Space Centre (CST), CNES and Thales Alenia Space (TAS) signed the contract covering phase C/D of the Poseidon 3-C radar altimeter to be delivered for the Surface Water and Ocean Topography mission (SWOT).
