    Soyuz is operated from the Guiana Space Centre, Europe’s spaceport. Like Ariane and Vega, launcher elements are shipped to Kourou in containers aboard the MN Toucan and MN Colibri. The only difference is their departure point, from Saint Petersburg in Russia. A Soyuz launch campaign lasts one to two months. Each phase is described below.

Positioning operations were conducted from the J2CCC control centre in Toulouse, which has now completed the 1st part of its mission.   11. 52nd International Paris Air Show. An exceptional week for CNES

    CNES was a focus of attention at the 52nd International Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, which comes to a close today. In addition to the many official delegations and trade participants from around the world, public visitors flocked to the CNES Pavilion. Revolving around the themes of innovation, climate and exploration, the pavilion was visited by President Emmanuel Macron and numerous government ministers. And astronaut Thomas Pesquet, as CNES’s guest throughout the show, performed an immersive virtual-reality trek on Mars while demonstrating that space continues to be the stuff of dreams.

  12. ExoMars 2016: TGO enters Martian orbit

    The ExoMars 2016 mission’s Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) was successfully captured into Martian orbit Wednesday 19 October. However, the landing of Schiaparelli had still not been confirmed at the end of our video broadcast of the event. The mission’s engineers were set to spend the night poring over data acquired by various satellites orbiting Mars to track down the tiny lander.

  13. New balloon campaign in Sweden

    Part of International Polar Year, the Strapolété project will provide valuable data on the Arctic stratosphere in summer to further our understanding of ozone-climate interaction. The project is based on the deployment of CNES balloons and is being conducted in Kiruna, Sweden.

  17. 1st Pleiades telescope in sight

    With delivery of the 1st Pleiades telescope set for 31 July, the ORFEO Earth-observation programme is advancing apace. The French-built optical component of this system will supply global imagery at resolutions down to 70 cm. Pleiades will also be a dual-use system serving civil and military applications.

    Le CNES a été au cœur des événements lors du 52ème Salon International de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace de Paris Le Bourget, qui s’achève dimanche 25 juin. En plus de nombreuses délégations officielles et des professionnels du monde entier, le public est venu nombreux visiter le Pavillon du CNES. Placé cette année sous le signe de l’innovation, du climat et de l’exploration, celui-ci a reçu la visite du Président de la République et de nombreux membres du gouvernement. Invité permanent du CNES, l’astronaute Thomas Pesquet a effectué une immersion sur Mars et démontré que l’espace fait toujours rêver.

    Monday 5 January, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall delivered his New Year wishes to members of the French and international press in the Salle de l’Espace at Paris Les Halles. This traditional gathering provided the opportunity to review a year of historic successes for CNES and to present the agency’s strategy and challenges for 2015, a year in which the focus will be on climate in the lead-up to the COP 21 global climate summit in Paris in December.

  20. PSMA put through its paces in French Guiana

    26 March, Operation Araponga demonstrated the effectiveness of the PSMA emergency medical aid unit during a final test run near the Brazilian border. Emergency services in Cayenne are now looking to obtain a satellite link to support operations in the long term.
