    The first High-Level Forum on ‘Space as a driver for socio-economic sustainable development’, organized by the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) in the run-up to the UNISPACE+50 conference in June 2018, is being held in Dubai from Sunday 20 to Thursday 24 November. At the invitation of Simonetta Di Pippo, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), on the opening day of the forum CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall talked about the role of satellites in curbing climate change.

  5. CNES’s OSTM/Jason-2 oceanography satellite mission marks its 10th year in orbit

    On 20 June, the OSTM/Jason-2 mission (Ocean Surface Topography Mission) will mark its 10th year in orbit. Initially intended for a three-to-five-year mission, the satellite is still operating after twice its design life. It has completed 47,000 orbital revolutions of our planet, acquiring measurements of unequalled precision from more than 300 million radar pulses.

  7. CFOSAT to gain new insights into sea state

    Dans une étude publiée en décembre 2012 dans le Bulletin of American Meteorological Society , une équipe internationale (Ifremer, Université du New Hampshire, NOAA, CLS, SHOM, Université des Açores et IPGP) a mis en évidence un nouveau record des plus hautes vagues jamais mesurées dans l'océan.... C'est la tempête Quirin, survenue en février 2011 dans l'Atlantique nord, qui l'emporte avec 20,1 m !
