ESA Council convened by videoconference for its 296th session on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 March, the first for the new Director General, Josef Aschbacher, who was appointed for a four-year term in December 2020 and took up his post on 1 March. ESA is an intergovernmental organization of 22 member states.

The 290th meeting of ESA Council on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 June at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany, continued the momentum of last November’s successful Space19+ Ministerial Conference in Seville, despite the Europe-wide health crisis. ESA is an intergovernmental organization of 22 member states. In Seville, its members committed more than €14 billion in funding for new programmes over three to five years, a new record.

Friday 9 June, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met Graham Turnock, the new Chief Executive of the United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA), in London. The agency heads took this opportunity to review space cooperation between France and the UK, notably in supporting efforts to curb climate change and through European space programmes.
